Elmiene (pronounced El mean) was officially introduced to me by The Terrell Show. I kept seeing him pop up on my YouTube Feed, but I didn’t take the suggestions. I think I was focused on the content I was watching and didn’t want to take the time to get into something new. My bad y’all. This delay from me caused you all to not know about this great artist.

I have now been binging his music and listening to whole albums on repeat. From his episode of The Terrell Show, you find out how Elmiene got started, a recording of him singing D’Angelo’s song Untitled.

Then, you follow up that show with his Tiny Desk performance and get introduced to his music.

Then you go to your music app and download his albums to listen in more detail. I started with Marking My Time, and I have went to Anyway I Can, while still doubling back and listening to Marking My Time. I have listened to his newest album, Heat The Streets, but the first two albums have me in a chokehold. I plan on going back and listening to Elmiene’s earlier songs, and then focusing on his newest album. My goal is to not include almost every single song he has 😆, but just to introduce you to my absolute favorites.

Marking My Time – Marking My Time (album)

My all-time favorite song of Elmiene’s is Marking My Time. This is the title track of his 2023 album of the same name. This song speaks to my soul. There is one line towards the end of the song, “Feelin my own skin crawl”, that when I read it, I realized I am not the only one. I didn’t think I was the only one, I just never met anyone that said they felt this way before. When I get really restless with life, I feel like my skin is crawling and I want to take it off. The only thing that makes me feel a little better is going for a drive. Marking My Time is the song of life and the living of it. At the end, you hope that you made your mark on the world. That you left, at least, your immediate surroundings better than you found them. My new favorite saying is, I did my best. My precious niece used to say this about people when she was like six. What did she know about people doing their best? Lol. When it’s all said and done, that is all we can do.

Light Work – Anyway I Can (album)

A lot of Elmiene’s songs are slower and heavier with a serious context. This song is upbeat and light, for lack of a better word 😆. “There is nothing heavy bout this love, girl it’s light for me.” What!?! Not only did God rob me from having the ability to sing, but also not being able to write music. Who came up with that line? Smh.

Dull Jewelry – Heat the Streets (album)

I don’t know what my favorite song from Heat the Streets is. I think the songs that resonated with me, I played out equally. I picked this song because I feel that most people would relate. I remember I was dating this guy who lived out of town. Something hurtful happened one time when I went to visit him, and I got in my car and left while he was at work. I was changed from that experience, and it showed. My mom said go back there and bring back my Ebony 😂. My shine was knocked off, I was dull jewelry. I did get my shine back, but it took a minute. Now, in this song, Elmiene was the problem, but the point is still valid, he’s dull from her leaving him.

Cry Against The Wind – sounds for someone (album available 3/27/26)

When I initially started writing this post, this song did not exist. I guess the delay was worth it, just so I could add this song to this post. I realize that I need to come up with better words and ways to describe how these songs make me feel. What part of my brain is tickled and why. The beat drop in this song, perfectly executed 🤌 (I guess this is the chef’s kiss emoji, lol). This song feels like two songs in one. What a blessing!

I recently paid someone to fix my blog and now that I am able to include Youtube videos, I have gotten over my attitude about posting. More music to come. I hope you find at least one of Elmiene’s songs you like, or you like all of them. Let me know your favorite. Stay well and whole. Much Love🧡💚

Gentleman – Gallant

I think this is the first song of Gallant’s I have featured on a playlist. When I think about it, that’s crazy. He has so many songs I love and play on repeat regularly. His album, Sweet Insomnia, came out around my birthday in 2019. I took a week off and went to watch the sunrise almost every morning listening to that album. I have to add one of those songs to my next playlist. I have not been good to my dude or y’all, by not sharing Gallant with you.

Feeling Lucky – BIBI & Jackson Wang

The first time I saw the video for this song, I was so irritated, and my irritation was reflected in the comments 😆. I think the video increases the level of sexiness for this song. I am sure this song was another suggestion from Spotify, and it was a good suggestion.

Top – Lucky Daye

So after I posted the last playlist, I was like, let me go check out Lucky Daye’s latest album, Algorithm. I love the album, but it is always songs that just grab you the first time you hear them. This song was one of them. It has been on repeat for the last two weeks along with Diamonds in Teal.

Lipstick – Tamia

I have been rocking with Tamia since You Put A Move on My Heart, which was featured on Q’s Jook Joint, an album from Quincy Jones. The song was later added to her first album, Tamia. That record is one of the best, hands down from beginning to end. For those who don’t know, Tamia also has multiple sclerosis. She was diagnosed in 2003 way before I even knew what it was. I learned though. Lipstick is featured on Tamia’s 6th album, Love Life. This is another album of hers I can listen to from beginning to end. She is one of my favorite artist.

Purple – Goapele

I realize music usually finds me, I rarely look for it. Unless I am doing a road trip. Then I like to load my playlist up with a mix of known and unknown music. I feel like when I am just focused on driving, I have the ability to truly listen to new music. I pick what I like and add it to my playlist. So no wonder I didn’t find this song until recently. This album came out in 2023. I am a sucker for a good love song, and with instruments. This song is giving Prince vibes with the title and the guitar that is being played beautifully throughout. I have been rocking with Goapele since Closer and she is still making me happy with her music.

Favorite – A$H

Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a video for this song. I heard it on a YouTube Short. I am pretty sure she is talking about a love interest, but I always think about my nephew when I hear this song. My nephew, Brandon bka Onion, is my favorite person. A$H says, “You’re my favorite person, and I’m always thinking of you.” I am always thinking about Onion. I randomly pray for him throughout the day. I am always wanting the best for him. Wanting to push him, but also wanting him to find his own way. I don’t know how you parents do it. I’m not the mom, and I be equally concerned. I just think so highly of him. That is my dude. He probably doesn’t even have a clue, just like the guy in this song she is singing about 😆.

Song in My Head – Jesse Gold

This song was a Spotify recommendation, and they did good with this one. When I worked at Ford, I worked with this lady who was probably in her 40s. You know when you are young, you think any age more than 5 years old than you is old. I have no clue how old she really was, but her hair was gray. She was speaking about people asking why she never married. What she said has stuck with me for over 20 years. She said, “I never got married because I didn’t find anyone to make my life better than what it is.” Not verbatim, but you get the message. In this song, Jesse said he doesn’t recognize himself anymore, got his shoes lined up all pretty at the door. He found the person that made him and his life better. At least someone did. Me and the gray-haired lady are still waiting 😆. Well, maybe she found someone too. I hope so.

HERicane – Lucky Daye

I really like this artist and his music. This song is from his newest album, Algorithm. I actually haven’t listened to this whole record, but I came across this song and loved it. He has many good songs from his other works. Lucky Daye has an album called, Table for Two, where each song is a collaboration with a different female artists. He won a Grammy for the album. Lucky Daye was on season 4 of American Idol, but was eliminated after making the top 20. It’s alright, he made it anyway and on his terms.

I am running low on new music, so I need to actually start looking. When, I am not listening to audiobooks, I have been going back in the archives and listening to old songs and albums that I know. I guess it is relaxing to hear familiar music. But there are so many new artists with music being published every day. I’m just being lazy and don’t want to wade through all the content to find the gems.

I think I’ll put myself on a writing schedule to ensure I am consistent with posting. Wednesdays will be a regular posting with words and pictures (if I have any new ones). Saturdays, I will post episodes of Ebony’s Playlist. I know I am a day late. I took my braids out Saturday, and that was an all-day project. Then today, detangling, washing, and detangling again, another all-day project. Anywho, I am back to posting after my two weeks break. I realize that if I go too long without writing, it becomes part of my normal. Hence, the schedule to keep me in line. Stay well well and whole. Much Love 🧡 💚
