Ebony’s Playlist: What’s on Repeat? Ep. 4

Happy Sunday! As I write that, I was thinking this playlist should have been a gospel edition. It’s not at all ๐Ÿ˜†. But that definitely is a thought. I have a few gospel songs on repeat that I can share. Maybe next time.

This playlist includes a song that is 10 years old, another that is newly released, my absolute favorite right now, and one that is my style, but a little different. I hope you can find one that sparks joy in you when you hear it.

Leave Love Be – Brandon Williams featuring Alex Isley

No real video for the song.

Alex Isley, the daughter of Ernie Isley of The Isley Brothers, comes with her own sound. Soft, lovely. My mom tells me all my music sounds alike. I guess she has a point. I like mellow music. Music where you can hear the instruments and voices clearly. Alex’s voice is one I want to hear over and over again.

I had to research Brandon Williams because he was new to me. Brandon is a music producer from Detroit, MI. Based on his YouTube profile, he is not just a music producer but also a composer, an arranger, and a performer. Brandon received a Grammy nomination for a song he produced for Vickie Winans, How I Got Over. He arranged this song beautifully.

P.S. This video is the string session for Leave Love Be. I stumbled on it while looking for the video to include in this post. If I find this on Spotify, it will be on repeat, too.

Elevate – Nao

I went round and round trying to pick the song for this post. I have three songs I am currently playing on repeat from her new album, Jupiter. This one, Just Dive, and All of Me. Usually, we get hooked on the first verse and chorus, but the second verse sold me on this song. She says, “Love the way, we push through the stars. How you navigate, we get up so far. It’s a pleasure, babe.” I love it! My friend, Shayla, doesn’t like her voice at all. She said she sounds like a kid. Meanie ๐Ÿ˜. I guess Nao is an acquired taste and not for everyone.

Truman – Han & Felix (Stray Kids)

I cannot stress how much this song is MY SHIT! MY SHIT! I really like K-Pop, and I have no shame in that. I feel like Stray Kids is my favorite group, so I guess that would make me a Stay (the name they use for their fandom). This particular song features just two of the eight member boy band, and one is my bias (as the kids say), Felix. I love him ๐Ÿ˜. He is the reason why I started really getting into K-pop. His deep voice and pretty face are such an unexpected combination. Now, this song is mostly in English with just a little bit of Korean. I am trying to ease y’all in before I go full K-pop on y’all butts ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Let’s Go Back – Jungle

I was at the car wash drying off my car, and the lady next to me was listening to these songs that kept grabbing my attention. I wasn’t going to ask her who it was because, you know, people don’t want to be bothered. But then I was like, fuck it. She told me who the band was, Jungle, and then proceeded to talk my ear off for a second ๐Ÿ˜†. I had heard a couple of songs by the band previously, Back on 74 and Keep Me Satisfied, that I liked. So, I just went and looked up more of their music. This one stuck. I get so happy when I hear it. It is kinda like a James Brown song, saying the same thing over and over, but I don’t care. I still haven’t found the song that made me ask her who she was listening to. It could be because I have this one on repeat.

Well, that is it for this episode. I will continue to look for more music to get hooked on and play on repeat. I hope all is as it should be for you all in this crazy world. I also hope that these playlist shines a little light into your life. Stay well and whole. Much Love ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿ’š

Ebony’s Playlist: What’s on Repeat? Ep. 3

Today, my friend asked me what I was passionate about. I truly couldn’t think of anything but music. I can’t imagine living without music. I can always find a song to suit any mood I’m in. I am so happy when I hear a new song and it hits a spot. I feel like I am doing a terrible job of describing something so amazing. I hope my playlists helps to get across what I can’t convey with words.

A Fool Getting Older – Full Crate featuring Luke Burr

I have not officially played this song out yet. It is one of those songs that you don’t play too many times on repeat, but every time it comes on, you have to listen to it. Luke Burr has such a distinct voice that you would recognize him on any song. I found him by way of Youtube shorts. He goes to nursing homes and sings for the seniors. That is so sweet of him

Lil Mama – Trip Carter

I have no idea who Trip Carter is, I just know Spotify suggested this song to me and it has been on repeat. Lil Mama is a song I would love to hear with a live band. That intro with just the instruments and the Ooos let’s you know this song is going to be good. It is a fast-paced, jazzy song that I would dance to, if I could. The coordination and balance only allow for chair dancing.

Somebody – Keshi

This little dude is talking nasty and I like it ๐Ÿ˜Š. Keshi’s sound is categorized as lo-fi hip hop, alternative, rnb, and pop. Seriously people, pick one. I would say lo-fi (a style of music that intentionally has imperfections and is often used as background music), describes it best. His sound is mellow and the songs just flow together well. Since I’ve listened to the whole album on repeat, I just picked a song. And why not a sexy one ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Tell Me – Peter Collins

Not to be confused with Phil Collins ๐Ÿ˜†. I don’t remember exactly how I was introduced to Peter. Maybe Instagram. He has a song that is more popular than Tell Me called You Got This, which is so uplifting and beautiful. I just decided to highlight this repeat because this is how I feel. When my husband arrives, I’m going to play this song for him, Like dude, where the hell you been? I had the privilege of seeing Peter Collins at The City Winery in Atlanta. His voice is an instrument he plays well. There was a man that kept hollering out PETER! every time he did something amazing during the show. I don’t know how he didn’t laugh because everyone else was laughing.

Music is truly a universal language. It isn’t always the words you hear, it can be the melody. I listen to a lot of k-pop (Korean pop) and I can assure you, I don’t know anything that is said. But the music, melody, and dancing have you jamming along. Please let me know what songs you like and feel a connection to. Or feel free to suggest a song to me. Have a great weekend! And stay well and whole. Much Love ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿ’š

Ebony’s Playlist: What’s on Repeat? Ep. 2

Happy Valentine’s Day ๐Ÿ’—. This edition of my playlist isn’t necessarily suited to Valentine’s Day, but you will find at least one song that you love.

Poetry by Dead Men – Sara Bareilles

https://youtu.be/Jup8eTbypIc?si=OIKon2MC76Oi8dZ1
This live version is awesome!

First off, I love me some Sara Bareilles and have played whole albums on repeat. I don’t remember when I discovered this song, but it had been out for a while. Another Covid song that didn’t get the love it should have. I have been where she is at in this song. I have dated someone for their potential. For who I thought they would become or who they said they were. Then you get to a point where it doesn’t matter anymore if it is you or it is them, you just have to go. And then Sara Bareilles writes a song about it and you play it on repeat.

Always – Victor Franco featuring Jacob Collier

https://youtu.be/Y3QBWFno5Gk?si=zPfkPJj3RjG-SLvB

I don’t know Victor Franco, but I know and love Jacob Collier. I actually had tickets to see him in concert one year. I didn’t make it because I was having car troubles. It broke my heart ๐Ÿ’”. Honestly, I’m still not over the disappointment. This song does make me happy though. It is so good that I don’t want to listen to anything else from Victor Franco. I just know he doesn’t have another song to compare to this one ๐Ÿ˜†.

For Us – V

https://youtu.be/y4p_L9hEM_M?si=VXQwQGe55iBXEaQW

I am ashamed of myself for how excited I get when I listen to this song. I had to confess to my friend Shayla how I felt and of course, share this song with her. For one, I think V aka Taehyung is so beautiful and I have the biggest crush on him. For two, he is only in his twenties and I am sure my old lady crush is gross on so many levels. It is just something about his voice and the way he sings this song. The worse thing about this song, it is too short.

Stay – Full Crate featuring Shae Universe

https://youtu.be/jbNDXiPDBgk?si=qqzUduNRJfdf1ilT

So the first few times I heard this song, I thought they were both singing. Then I heard Shae Universe on another song and realized, she just has a very deep voice. This is a mellow ass song that is great for cruising down the highway. Full Crate will show up on my playlist a few more times. He finds the best artist to collaborate with.

As before, these songs will be included under Ebony’s Playlist in my Spotify profile, elsims27. Please let me know if there is a particular song from this playlist that speaks to you. And if you have a song on repeat, share it with me. I am always looking for new music. A couple of my lovely readers emailed me a few songs to check out. I was not disappointed. Be well and whole. Much Love ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿ’š
